Working my minimum wage retail job and living just .75 miles from it, I decided to commute to work year round by bicycle to save money on gas. Previously, (on my Magna Excitor mt. bike) I have been using a Schwinn seat post rack with a 12inch by 12inch by 12inch milk crate bungie corded and zip tied to it. It would fit 4 gallons of milk in the crate or about 3 to 4 days worth of groceries, but it was much too top heavy with anything more than 2 gallons of milk in it. I considered buying pannier bags, but I knew anything I put in them would be covered in mud or road salt no matter how "water proof" they claimed. Most front baskets wouldn't work considering my front suspension and would interfier with the headlights on my handlebars.
