It's been great, but recently started locking up (freezing) and would get the occasional RROD. It would even lock up when my daughters would be watching Netflix. Total bummer. The symptoms of our Xbox got worse and worse. Eventually it would freeze after about 1-2 mins of powering on. Then I started seeing the RROD. 5 and 2 year old girls that are unable to play Fruit Ninja are very unhappy campers.I've tried the overheating towel trick in the past and it worked, however it was never a good fix and it didn't last long at all. I did some research and found out that by using a heat gun to reflow the solder under the CPU and GPU, that it most often fixes the problems I was seeing. Also those X clamps seem to cause a lot of problems. I ordered this kit (thanks Amazon Prime), and a $20 Wagner heat gun. There are better kits available for beginners (which you should use if you are a beginner) but once you've fixed a few, a basic kit like this is perfect and much more efficient.The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the manual can get a little confusing since they wrote one manual for all their different kits, so finding the section that applies to you can be a little aggravating if you're new to this...but then again, if you've fixed a few, a manual isn't really necessary at all. |
